How to choose a college that fits you

Not every athlete competes in college. Fit still decides whether the next four years work.

Athletic fit is only one axis

A program can be a perfect athletic fit and a poor life fit. The school's academic programs, campus culture, location, size, and cost all shape the next four years whether or not the athlete keeps playing.

Families who optimize only for the athletic offer often transfer. Families who weigh the whole fit tend to stay and graduate.

    Questions that reveal fit

Does the school offer the academic path the athlete actually wants? What's the four-year graduation rate? What's the realistic net cost after aid? Would the athlete still want to attend if they stopped playing tomorrow?

If the answer to the last question is no, the athletic offer is carrying too much of the decision.

Using fit intelligence to narrow the list

Plain-English fit — where you meet a program's criteria, where you're close, where you don't — lets you build a list around programs that make sense on every axis, not just the athletic one. That list is shorter, more honest, and far more likely to convert.
