    Athletic Grant-in-Aid

An athletic grant-in-aid is the formal NCAA term for what is commonly called an athletic scholarship — financial aid awarded based on athletic ability. The phrase appears in NCAA bylaws and scholarship agreements.

The terms are interchangeable in practice; 'grant-in-aid' is the bureaucratic language on the paperwork. Families seeing 'grant-in-aid' on an offer document should understand it is the same as an athletic scholarship.

Understanding the formal term helps families read offer documents accurately and ask the right questions about renewal, amount, and conditions.
