Highlight Video
A highlight video is a short compilation of an athlete's best plays, used by college coaches to evaluate recruits they cannot see in person. A strong highlight video is typically 3–5 minutes, leads with the best clips, and is the single most important asset for remote evaluation.
Coaches decide whether to pursue a recruit based largely on film. A weak or disorganized video can end interest before it starts, which is why the quality of the highlight reel often matters more than the number of coaches it reaches.
A strong highlight video leads with the best clips — coaches often decide in the first 30 seconds whether to keep watching. It should be sport- and position-appropriate: a soccer center back's reel should show positioning and distribution, not just goals; a basketball point guard's reel should show decision-making and passing, not just scoring.
Clips should be clearly identified with the athlete's number, team, and opponent, so a coach can find the player on screen quickly. Music, effects, and long intros waste the coach's time and should be cut.
Beyond the highlight reel, many coaches also want full game film to see how an athlete plays in context — decision-making off the ball, defense, and reactions to mistakes rarely appear in a highlight cut. Having both available gives coaches what they need to evaluate fully.
