    Greyshirt

A greyshirt is a student who delays full-time enrollment until the second term of their freshman year, practicing with the team part-time while taking a reduced course load. This delays the start of their eligibility clock, effectively giving them extra development time.

Greyshirting is less common than redshirting and is used strategically in sports with large rosters.

It can help athletes who are academically or physically not yet ready for a full Division I load.
