Redshirt
A redshirt is a year in which a student-athlete practices with the team but does not compete in games, preserving a year of athletic eligibility. Redshirting allows athletes to develop physically and academically while retaining four years of competition.
A redshirt year is common for athletes who need development time or are behind established players at their position.
Medical redshirts are available for athletes who suffer season-ending injuries early in the year.
