    NCAA Division II

NCAA Division II offers a middle ground: competitive athletics with athletic scholarships, but generally smaller budgets and a more balanced approach to academics and athletics than D1. D2 requires a minimum 2.2 core-course GPA for eligibility.

D2 programs can offer partial and full athletic scholarships, primarily in equivalency sports. The scholarship budgets are smaller than D1, but the balance between athletics and academics can be a better fit for athletes who want to compete at a high level without the full-time demands of D1.

Many D2 athletes get meaningful playing time earlier in their careers than at crowded D1 programs. For athletes who want to develop and contribute quickly, D2 can offer a faster path to the field.

D2 eligibility requires a 2.2 core-course GPA (with a sliding scale for test scores), which is a slightly lower academic floor than D1. But individual D2 schools often set higher admission standards than the NCAA minimum.

D2 programs recruit regionally more often than D1's national recruiting, which can mean more attention from coaches who are actively building rosters with specific positional needs.
